Mini Challenge #3: Mash Up!

For this challenge I am mashing up my bookish life with a non bookish passion. I have a lot of things I like to do besides read – and traveling to new places is probably my favorite. We’re going to Toronto over spring break and are really excited. I also like trying new things, and I planted my first garden last summer and it was a great learning experience. We had the ingredients for fresh salsa all summer long, too! When the weather is nice, I love to be outside. We ride our bikes on the local paths and are planning a lot of hiking trips this summer.

I am also a pretty good cook.  I enjoy trying new seasonal recipes and my husband is a great taste tester!  Because I love to cook and try out new recipes, I’ve decided to create two lists – first, my go to blogs for recipes *and* my ultimate guest list of authors I would love to host at my very own author dinner party!

My go to food blogs:

All pictures link to blogs.

My number one go to for recipes. I have never been disappointed with a recipe from this website. Great quinoa and orzo recipes. I tend not to eat a lot of red meat, but my favorite on this site is the Beef Stew recipe and it is perfect for this ridiculous winter that we have had in the midwest.

Ree always has delicious food featured on her blog and her photography skills are stellar! I love following her on Instagram to see all of her Oklahoma sky pics!

I’m obsessed with the recipes on this blog! I just wish she would post more often. Great stuff here! I mean, the chocolate cake?! Are you kidding me?

  1. Omgosh. I did food, too, and I can’t believe I didn’t think of adding blogs! I’m so glad you did, though, because you suggested a couple I wasn’t familiar with! Yay! Thanks for sharing! 😀

  2. Ohhh! So much fun! I definitely love myself some food too but I am a vegetarian so it makes things hard. I know there are a lot of vegetarian blogs out there so if you ever happen to come across some send them my way 🙂 I also love the authors you selected for your dinner party! It would be a star-studded event for sure!

  3. Fantastic author dinner party idea! That would be an entertaining night with all of those great personalities. I love food blogs too – thanks for your recs!

  4. I love how you put Ransom Riggs and Tahereh Mafi together, they’re great. Have you seen their Youtube channel? It always makes me laugh. And I have never found many cooking blogs, but I’ve definitely wanted to, so you can bet these are all getting bookmarked. Thanks for the recommendations. Libba Bray is another fantastic author, and Rainbow Rowell…gosh you’ve got so many great authors on this list, I would want to come! This is a great mash up, thanks for sharing 🙂

  5. Great idea for a mash-up post. Thanks for the links to the food blogs, they look really good. I’d love to invite Marie Lu and Veronica Roth to a dinner party as well.

  6. That would be such an awesome dinner party! John Green is awesome and Lauren Myracle and Libba Bray are hilarious in person! I’ve never seen Maureen Johnson in person but I’d expect she’d be hilarious, too! I would love to be even a fly on the wall for that dinner party!

  7. I am always looking for new food blogs! I already follow The Pioneer Woman, but haven’t heard of the other two so thanks! I love that Tahereh Mafi and Ransom Riggs are together. Are they not the cutest couple ever?? I want to be on the invite list to this dinner party!

  8. All those authors at one dinner?! I don’t know if I’d be so excited that I’d spend all night flitting between their conversations, or so nervous I clammed up! Haha

I’m not much of a foodie, but I’m working on expanding my horizons. Thanks for the new blogs to check out; hopefully they help in my quest to be less particular! Haha

  9. I hope you enjoy your trip to Toronto! I live here ATM and while it’s not the greatest city to LIVE in, it’s one of the FUNNEST to visit! There is so much to do 🙂

I have to check out these recipe blogs! I’m recently getting back into cooking so these are great suggestions 🙂 Thanks!!!

  10. I seriously want to cook more! I’m so intimidated by the idea of preparing dishes though. My husband is a great cook and loves doing it, but I don’t want him doing it all the time. 2014 is the year I make myself get more active in the kitchen!

Also, can I get an invite to this dinner party? Pretty please?
