It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? 2/10/13 #IMWAYR

IMWAYR

It’s Monday! What are you Reading? is hosted by Sheila at Book Journeys and invites bloggers to recap what they’ve read this week while planning ahead on what to read next! Jen at Teach Mentor Texts and Kellee at Unleashing Readers added their own twist by focusing on kidlit, from picture books up to YA.

Here’s what I’ve read lately:

Shatter Me, Unravel Me and Ignite Me by Tahereh Mafi
2011, 2013, 2014
Mature YA Dystopian Fantasy
My Goodreads Rating: 5/5 Stars
I reread Shatter Me and Unravel Me in anticipation of the release of Ignite Me  and was so happy to revisit one of my favorite YA series that I have ever read. It is so different than other dystopian novels and the love triangle is epic. Seriously. I think Mafi is a fantastic storyteller and Ignite Me is such a satisfying ending to this hit series! I was worried how she would end it and kept waiting for the other shoe to drop, so to speak, but was very pleasantly surprised! I’m not sure that all fans of the series feel the same way, but for me, it was perfect.

May B by Caroline Starr Rose
2012
MG-YA Historical Fiction
My Goodreads Rating: 4/5
This is a story about survival on the prairie told in gorgeous verse. I love May’s voice and perseverance. Would make an interesting read aloud during for a historical fiction or survival unit.

roomies

Roomies by Sara Zarr and Tara Altebrando
2013
Contemporary YA Fiction
My Goodreads Rating: 4/5 Stars
This fun novel told from differing perspectives is set on two coasts and around the lives of two incoming freshman girls who communicate via email before they become roommates. Each girl is anxious and nervous about starting college and I think older students would enjoy this one.

why we broke up

I have these five library books on my bedside table just waiting to be read. I hope to get through all of them within the next two weeks while also finishing my re-watch of Veronica Mars in anticipation of next month’s movie. I’m on season 3 and have enjoyed this series all over again! So far on the reading front I’ve started Not a Drop to Drink by Ohio writer Mindy McGinnis and am very intrigued!

Happy Reading!
